One of the most often heard of saying nowadays is the phrase, "Health is Wealth". Simply put, an excellent health is treasure for a person. What good will money do if one is very sick.

But today, many have taken the initiative to really turn this quote literally by making their own definition out of the quote.

What I am saying is that people here in the Philippines have taken this age old quote to a more literal level by getting rich selling health supplements. Today, the market here in the Philippines is jam-packed with "Herbal food supplements", so much that any business minded individual has seriously considered it as their cash cow. Some people say that the ordinary person may even go to the extent of skipping the medicine recommended by their doctors so that they can buy food supplements that claim to "cure all."

I do not hold any grudge against herbal food supplements since some are quite helpful to our bodies and are well recommended by reputable doctors. I also take herbal food supplements everyday.

But what pissses me off is how advertisements shout out that their product can "heal all" sickness and diseases. Yes it may be true that these herbal food supplements have an effect against some forms of sickness and diseases but since they are only labeled as "food supplements" by BFAD (the Philippine food and drugs bureau) it should only be advertised as it is.

Another thing which makes things uglier is these so called cure-it-all-herbal-food-supplements have not been strictly tested by either government or third party laboratories concerning their claims in curing certain diseases.

According to our constitution, it is the Philippine government's prime duty to "serve and protect the Filipino people." The government should never forget this duty. But by neglecting to tighten the leash on herbal food supplements companies, they have not satisfied the basic law of this country. I therefore cry out to our government to clean up its act and start doing its duty!
